When Hannah Carty first crossed paths with HBL, it wasn’t as an employee, but as an external recruiter helping to fill vacancies for the company. She noticed that HBL stood out from the typical office job, so when the opportunity arose in February 2025 to join the company as an internal recruiter, Hannah didn’t hesitate to jump at the chance.
Today, Hannah is the Talent Acquisition Lead at HBL, where her role has expanded from focusing on UK sites to supporting recruitment needs across Europe. She manages the end-to-end hiring process for different countries, working closely with managers to understand staffing needs. She also creates appealing adverts to attract the right candidates, shortlisting, interviewing and guiding applicants through to onboarding. Beyond recruitment, Hannah also assists in training managers on interview techniques, onboarding practices and utilising the internal systems available to streamline the hiring process.
When asked about her greatest achievement, Hannah mentions leading the recruitment for HBL’s City Walk event in Jeddah. She played an important role in selecting employees for secondment opportunities abroad. “Knowing that I am an active part of the amazing opportunities that HBL can offer our operational staff is fulfilling, and it was fantastic to hear what an amazing time they had working out there,” she said. Hannah also mentioned her accomplishment working with Hennie, the Training and Recruitment Executive. Together, they attended a careers fair and successfully registered over 300 people interested in working at Winter Wonderland, giving them a head start in their external recruitment for the event.
Suzanne Green, Head of Global HR reflected on Hannah Carty’s contributions, citing “Hannah has made a fantastic impact as Head of Talent Acquisition. She has brought innovation and fresh approaches to set us up for long-term success and aligned herself with many of the global territories to offer support with their recruitment. A true team player, Hannah’s enthusiasm and collaborative spirit have been an enabler of positive outcomes for colleagues, and she has quickly become such a valued part of the team.”.
Of course, the role comes with its challenges. For Hannah, the biggest challenge has been keeping up to date with the mass hires and onboarding of seasonal staff. However, she credits the supportive HR team at Head Office, along with the Games and Arcade Managers she works closely with, for their support in helping ensure everything runs smoothly.
As she looks to the future, Hannah is passionate about growing the Talent Team. She hopes to collaborate with others in the different regions to share knowledge and support every part of the business. At the same time, she is dedicated to her own professional journey as she plans to complete her CIPD qualifications.
HBL is excited to see how Hannah’s journey will continue to unfold. Her story so far is only the beginning, and we look forward to seeing all that she will accomplish in the years ahead!
